OUT Maine has hired Soren Erwich (he/him) of Bethel, Maine as the organization’s new School Engagement Coordinator as of January 2025.
Soren is a 2022 graduate of St. Lawrence University with a degree in Anthropology and Educational Studies, and he is currently earning his master’s degree in Diversity Leadership from the University of St. Thomas. His career includes both participation and leadership within his communities’ LGBTQIA2S+ advocacy groups, with experience connecting student needs to administrators, hosting events, and creating queer-focused spaces. Soren is originally from the Netherlands, coming from a Dutch-Indonesian family, but has always found himself coming back to Maine throughout his life.
As OUT Maine’s School Engagement Coordinator, Soren will be the first point of contact for most educators and school staff across Maine. He will be at the forefront of the nonprofit’s statewide GSTA (Gay, Straight, and Transgender Alliance) Network, will design programming curricula and student engagement, will consult advisors in virtual programs such as the GSTA Advisor Support Circle, and more vital tasks with the organization. This position was previously held by current OUT Maine Associate Director Cassie Cooper (they/them).
Soren can be reached at soren@outmaine.org for any school program-related questions. Please join us in welcoming him to the team!
