OUT Maine is a non-profit, youth-driven organization dedicated to the support & empowerment of LGBTQ young people in Rural Maine - in their schools, in their communities, & in their lives.
Since 1996, we have operated a drop-in center in Rockland, ME. Drop-in is a safe space for youth aged 12-22 to explore and express their identities at any point in their journey, a place where they can find supportive peers and adult allies, confidential discussion groups, LGBTQ-centric projects and activities, and a place to be themselves free of judgement.
In addition to drop-in, OUT! is working to bring GSTAs (Gay-Straight-Trans Alliances) to schools in rural Maine, as well as reaching out to parents & community members to foster safe spaces for youth where they live, beyond the walls of our drop-in center. We believe that the world should be their safe space.
Let's come together to change the message from one of hate and ignorance to one of support and safety.
Your involvement is vital as we strive to build an inclusive, supportive environment.
All youth need safe places where they can be themselves. Through OUT's work as advocates and educators, LGBTQ youth and their allies are more and more accepted in rural Maine. But there is still work to be done.
