Dear Anonymous:
If you have someone who has not yet shared their pronouns with you, the best to do is offer your own pronouns. Say “Hello, my name is _____, and I use (he/him) pronouns.” It is best to let this person share their pronouns with you on their own terms and when they feel ready. However, if you share yours first this might allow them to feel more at ease in sharing their own pronouns. If you are not sure which pronouns to use, one method you could try is to use a neutral pronoun like they/them or just use their name in place of the pronoun. Example: Sally went to the store and said they would be right back.”
