Program Assistant

OUT Maine is seeking a program assistant to support all organizational programming and management of contract and grant deliverables.  Come join our great team as we continue to deepen our work and improve the lives of LGBTQ+ youth in rural Maine.

Key responsibilities of this position will include working with community-based advisory councils; promoting and supporting the implementation of all program initiatives; tracking data; reporting for contracts, grants and organizational budgeting; understanding and providing assistance for the implementation of programs to support and empower LGBTQ+ youth and build welcoming and affirming communities throughout Maine.

This position will work hand-in-hand with our staff to support the programs that support Maine’s diverse queer youth in all of their intersectional identities by changing the very systems that serve them.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree combined with 2-3 years’ relevant work experience, or 8-10 years of  relevant work experience.
  • Strong writing and interpersonal communication skills. 
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.
  • Attention to detail is a must; ability to exercise discretion.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficient with database software, website tools, social media platforms and Google Suite and/or Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email). 
  • Ability to work independently within a team; sense of humor essential.
  • Skills or experience partnering with community-based groups a plus.
  • Position requires some evening and weekend hours.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background, child protective service check & sex offender check and have a good driving record.
  • Must be able to exert moderate physical effort with frequent physically active training and meetings with youth and adults, driving, typing and occasionally lifting material weighing up to 25 pounds.

This position is full-time and is based in Rockland, Maine. We will consider the possibility of some remote work. Includes travel around the state with some overnights, as well as some evening and weekend work, scheduled in advance. 

Salary range $34,000 – $37,000 based on experience. Paid vacation and sick leave; 13 paid holidays; 100% health care costs for employee; retirement contribution match. 

LGBTQ+ Youth Tobacco Prevention Specialist

OUT Maine is seeking a prevention specialist to work with LGBTQ+ youth to build their resilience and assets and reduce tobacco use including vaping. Come join our great team as we continue to deepen our work in support of LGBTQ+ youth in rural areas in Maine.

Key responsibilities of this position will include working with a community based advisory council; understanding and implementing best practices in tobacco prevention; supporting LGBTQ+ youth programming and resources to build resiliency and alternatives to tobacco use.

This position will work hand-in-hand with our current Youth Engagement Coordinator, who is actively engaging youth in building their individual capacity as well as their leadership skills around issues of public health, social justice and restorative practices.

These two youth positions form a powerful youth-focused team improving the lives of LGBTQ+ youth.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 2-3 years’ experience with either youth development and programs or primary prevention.
  • Strong facilitation and training skills with both youth and adults in multiple settings a plus.
  • Skills or experience partnering with community based groups a plus.
  • Knowledge of positive youth development, youth-adult partnerships, prevention and public health practices are a plus.
  • Knowledge of various social media platforms for developing community awareness strategies a plus.
  • Strong writing and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.
  • Ability to maintain appropriate boundaries, including online and on social media.
  • Position requires some evening and weekend hours.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background, child protective service check & sex offender check and have a good driving record.
  • Must be able to exert moderate physical effort with frequent physically active training and meetings with youth and adults, driving, typing and occasionally lifting material weighing up to 25 pounds.
