Mental Health Coordinator

OUT Maine is seeking a passionate and dedicated Mental Health Coordinator to lead our mental health, family support, and prevention efforts, ensuring LGBTQ+ youth thrive emotionally and socially. Committed to supporting LGBTQ+ youth in rural communities, OUT Maine provides inclusive, affirming spaces and services. The Coordinator will oversee mental health initiatives, family support services, and substance use prevention programs while developing trauma-informed, LGBTQ+ inclusive strategies.

Key Responsibilities

Mental Health Program Leadership

  • Design, implement, and evaluate mental health support initiatives for LGBTQ+ youth, families, and caregivers.
  • Integrate mental health strategies into all OUT Maine programming, including youth, family, and education initiatives, emphasizing social-emotional learning (SEL) and trauma-informed care.
  • Provide consultation and actionable mental health recommendations to staff to enhance the emotional and psychological well-being of LGBTQ+ youth.
  • Collaborate with the Associate Director and Executive Director to develop and enhance mental health services across programs.

Youth Support

  • Facilitate LGBTQ+ youth programming, including support groups, retreats, and other opportunities.
  • Lead mental health-related programming, both online and in-person.
  • Provide mental health support during weekend retreats and youth events.
  • Collaborate with the Youth Engagement Coordinator to develop youth program schedules, activities, and resources.

Family and Parent Support

  • Lead initiatives to support parents and families of LGBTQ+ youth, including facilitating support groups addressing issues like homelessness and family conflict.
  • Offer consultation to parents, school personnel, and professionals to enhance support for LGBTQ+ youth.

Substance Use and Tobacco Prevention

  • Develop substance use and tobacco prevention strategies for LGBTQ+ youth, integrating these into broader wellness programming.
  • Partner with state and community organizations to expand access to prevention resources.

Training and Education

  • Develop and deliver training for professionals on LGBTQ+ mental health, trauma-informed care, and best practices.
  • Provide professional development for staff to ensure mental health and trauma-informed practices are applied across all programs.

Communication and Advocacy

  • Collaborate with the Communications Coordinator to create mental health-related content for newsletters, blogs, and social media.
  • Participate in community advocacy to improve mental health services for LGBTQ+ youth.

Qualifications

  • Education: Master’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology, or a related field; licensure as an LCSW, LCPC, or similar.
  • Experience: 5+ years in mental health services, with a focus on LGBTQ+ youth or marginalized populations.
  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed, culturally responsive care, and substance use prevention.
  • Program development, implementation, and evaluation experience.
  • Excellent leadership, collaboration, and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with Maine’s mental health and youth services networks is a plus.

Skills and Abilities

  • Proficiency with Mac OS, Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and other software.
  • Strong project management and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to build effective relationships with youth, families, and professionals.
  • Exceptional decision-making, organization, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Working Conditions

  • This is a full-time hybrid remote position with required travel to the OUT Maine office in Rockland 2-4 times a month. Statewide travel is required, with some evenings and weekends.
  • Must pass background checks and have a valid driver’s license with access to a vehicle.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Salary and Benefits

  • Salary: $58,000 – $62,000, based on experience.
  • Benefits: 3 weeks paid vacation, 2 weeks sick leave, 14 paid holidays, 100% employer-paid health insurance (employee only), employer-paid short-term disability insurance, retirement contribution plan, and optional dental coverage.
